Available Retirees

G.R.A.C.E. believes that prospective adopters should have a chance to learn about the greyhounds available. See what they look like, ask questions about particular dogs, and ultimately choose a greyhound who will best suit their circumstances and enrich their lives.

  • We help adopters choose dogs by providing detailed information about each dog and offering suggestions about which dogs would work best in the adopter’s environment.

  • We do not place a dog in a home without the adopters full involvement in the decision-making process.

  • All families with children ages 3 through 5 years must have a fenced in yard to adopt.  Due to the fact that we cannot conduct in home visits with young children to see the true interaction between the grey and the children we are updating our requirements raising the minimum age to 3.

  • Please click on the application tab to complete the application.

  •   Please feel free to follow up with us regarding your application at 734-558-4218 if you have not heard from us within 7 days of submitting your application. Thank you so much for your interest in adopting or fostering a greyhound, and we look forward to hearing from you!

UPDATE:  Because of the current conditions in our state and across the country we are not doing on site home visits. We will contact you about creating a video and where to send for us to review.  Thank you for your assistance.

Thank you

Below are our current Available Retirees. Feel free to pick one, or several, to become your new family pet! Remember, greyhounds are like potato chips…you can’t have just one.

This month’s featured retire is…Ram

I am an  active beautiful and super sweet shy kinda guy looking for that couch to call my own…could that be with you?

Ram is a special needs boy. He struggles with anxiety which makes him leery of unknown people and places. But once he accepts you, he is a very loving boy. He is currently on an herbal formulation that has taken the edge off his anxiety making him much more comfortable with his surroundings and unknown people and places.

He is up for adoption again because he was defending his person too forcefully from his male partner and cats. He might need to be an only pet or be with a female close to his own size. Small dogs are questionable. Cats are definitely not an option. He has no experience at being an only, so would have to adjust to that as well as a new home. In his foster home, he has used the pack to determine if situations are “safe”. He will require much patience and understanding but the effort will be well worth it.

He does tend towards women more than men and is most comfortable with children. He hurries up to children with his tail wagging asking for attention. Unknown adults need to ignore him, leaving the initiation of contact up to Ram. Being on his herbal supplement, he will approach strangers on his own time. The trick is, don’t look at him.

Ram kisses are the best and are given out when he is feeling safe and comfortable. Ram is fine on all types of floors and does stairs with ease. He will crate when needed. He sleeps the night thru but does know when breakfast is to be served and will remind you if you happen to be a little late getting up. He also knows when dinnertime is. He has good house manners only barking when needing to go outside or when he is uncomfortable with an unknown person who is looking at him.

Ram is not a counter surfer. He can be a picky eater, sometimes leaving some breakfast, most often finishing dinner. Plain yogurt helps a lot; it’s yummy. Treats must be what he considers the good ones for him to take them from your hand. He occasionally plays with his single toy of choice. He very much enjoys running in the yard with the other hounds. He stands well for grooming as that feels real good.

Ram is very much a homebody. He does walk on leash but care must be taken as there are things out there with which he isn’t familiar. He does have a no-escape harness for when he does leave the house. He is anxious in the car unless he has canine company.

Hi Everyone, let me introduce myself, they call me Baxter but my racing name was Barts Baxter Out. I was a pretty good racer (51 races) at Wheeling and Tri State in West Virginia. I have just made the trip from West Virginia to Michigan and been placed in my foster home to get used to home life. Stay tuned for updates.

Update:
I would love to introduce the GRACE family to foster Baxter, race name Barts Baxter Out! He is an almost three year old (dob 4/11/20) brindle boy who is a handsome hunk of hound!! He raced 48 races with seven wins and six 2nd place titles. He is a sweet, loving boy who loves ear/neck scratches, belly/butt rubs and face kisses. He wags his tail and will give kisses. He loves to be cozy and has enjoyed all of the comforts of home life. He loves stuffies and bones- he has not shredded any toys or chewed off limits items. He does not counter surf or beg, but is a chow hound. He loves food and is food motivated. He loves car rides and walks very well in a pack. He has not had major accidents and will go potty in the backyard and on walks. He is interested in my cats, but is easily redirected and understands if you get too close you will be punished (by the cat/corrected by the human). He is a social guy and loves people. He has been left alone 5-6+ hours, free range (only with a belly band/muzzles in the beginning) with my hounds and has done well.
He is fine with stairs as long as they are not slippery (carpets/wood/stone are all ok). He is still figuring out how to load up into the car and the laminate floors are lava; he moves from rug to rug in my house. I do think though, with time and more confidence he will be able to master any floor (he has shown me not all laminate floors are lava).
Foster Baxter is a good boy. He will be an amazing addition to any family and is ready to find his forever home!!

Let me interduce myself. I am GLS Aunt Bee, queen of all I survey. My subjects may call me Bee. I am ruler of all in my realm. I expect all my subjects to fawn over me 24/7 without question giving pets and rubs and scratches. I have not had younger subjects so cannot say how well I might appreciate them. Actions that are not my idea may be bulked at (can be stubborn). My subjects shall not intrude upon my space without permission (space/sleep aggression issues with people and dogs).

I shall be given tasty meals which I shall enjoy and mouthwatering treats upon demand. I will enjoy leisurely walks on leash at which I am very dignified and shall relieve myself in both forms as I please. I shall enjoy and respect my gardens, not digging or jumping its fence. There will be car rides that I will relish. I should most enjoy a realm that I do not have to share. Should there be other furry inhabitants, they shall respect me, or I will put them in their place (not good with other dogs). Should they be feline, I may tolerate them (cat correctable).

I shall go up and down stairs at my discretion. I shall bark at any possible intruders into my realm as I see fit. All floor surfaces are to my liking therefore I shall not soil them. Many beds will be placed upon these floors so I will be in comfort in whichever room my subjects are in. I relax and sleep the night thru in the room my subjects sleep. I respect my realm and am not destructive towards it. I shall be afforded toys to play with and de-stuff at my pleasure. Should a crate be required when my subjects are away, it must have a very comfortable bed and entertainment.

I can't wait to see him bloom more over the next couple of weeks. His littermate, Bee (Aunt Bee) is also available for adoption. His other littermate Barney Fife has just been placed in his new home.

Hi Everyone, let me introduce myself, they call me Tiny because I am so small just 44 pounds. I just made the trip from Kansas to Michigan to find my forever home. Stay tune for updates as my foster parents learn more about me.

Updates:
ntroducing Her Royal Highness Tiny Tina, the Queen Elizabeth of foster dogs. She thrives in a pack of dogs, cats, and humans - delighting in showing off both her soft gooey sweetness and her rock solid iron will. Humans exist to serve her, whether that is responding to her 2am howls of boredom and hunger.

She delights in showing up for scratches, but when the leashes come out she thinks a full roach of exercise protest is appropriate before turning around and zooming for half an hour with her besties in the fenced back yard. Despite her foster humans constant reminders that putting your paws on their shoulders is not the royal way to get their attention, she still disagrees. With her love of food, need for constant attention, and hording of the toys she just can’t help but forget her manners.

The foster humans in her world love her sweet heart and are committed to continuing the conversation of exactly what is expected of puppy royalty. Somewhere out there is a fenced yard, greyhound pack, and highly attentive human that will be perfect for her once she figures it all out.
